Calling a market top in Jamestown commemorations

Going by Barry Ritholtz's theory that magazine covers are a contrary indicator, I predict that Time's current cover on Jamestown means there won't be any more major Jamestown commemorations for, say, a century.

In case you were wondering, this observation is (1) a dodgy excuse to get in my second post of the day, because The Man wants two every weekday, and (b) an opportunity to mention that I don't have a column in the current issue. I'm currently working very hard on my column for the next issue, which explains the lack of posting today.

Is this part of a trend? Should I dump Colonial Williamburg as well? Should I move out of Philadelphia, before our tourist-attracting "historical area" bubble bursts?

TomT:

This is a funny post. You strike the right tone with these posts freakanomicsy posts. Slate would have run a full 300 hundred word article on this by Jacob Weisberg that would have come across as too smartass.

Justin Fox:

Philadelphia clearly peaked when Rick Stengel moved there in 2004 to run the Constitution Center. Although now that he's back in NYC ...

wood turtle:

Wow. "The Man?"

You make it sound as though you're working in a coal mine or something. Does Time have a company store too?
