Ahmadinejad vs. Iran
In the unfortunate tendency to see the Middle East in black and white, it is usually overlooked that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is just as aggressive in Iranian internal politics as he is on the international stage--and he has piled up enemies at home as well as abroad. He's been under increasing domestic pressure since the U.N. adopted Resolution 1737 last month calling for sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program. Tehran newspapers even from the conservative camp to which Ahmadinejad generally belongs are criticizing his fiery anti-Western policies for having provoked the West into punishing Iran.
Last month in Tehran, a senior conservative leader who opposes Ahmadinejad frankly predicted to me that the president wouldn't make it through his four-year term--that the Iranian parliament would vote to remove him from office. That may be stating it too strongly, but there's no doubt that Ahmadinejad faces intense domestic political opposition on a number of counts.
Apart from reformists who are against him on ideological grounds, there is the powerful conservative faction loyal to Ayatullah Akbar Hamhemi Rafsanjani that believes Ahmadinejad cheated Rafsanjani out of the presidency in the 2005 election. Ahmadinejad ran for president with the backing of the Abadgaran, religious conservatives who felt shut out of the corridors of power, but Ahmadinejad alienated many of the group's figures by refusing to dole out patronage jobs to Abadgaran loyalists. In forming his first cabinet, Ahmadinejad had to nominate three oil ministers before one was accepted by the parliament. Ahmadinejad's conservative foes have continued to fight him; his candidates fared poorly in last month's municipal council elections.
Ahmadinejad, the first non-cleric to become president in two decades, also antagonized the Islamic establishment. Last year his proposal allowing women to attend soccer matches met fierce resistance in the form of fatwas from Shiite Muslim clerics; Ahmadinejad only backed down when Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei sided with the mullahs. The biggest threat to Ahmadinejad, however, is anger with egalitarian economic policies-- curbs on interest rates, for example--that are causing spikes in inflation. Discontent over the economy is uniting the politicians and growing numbers of ordinary Iranians against him.
Ahmadinejad believes in his own rhetoric, but part of the reason for his hard-line bombast is to motivate his core supporters and broaden his populist base over the heads of the political class. But this has got him into trouble even with conservatives from the start, notably when his remarks about wiping Israel off the map caused a huge international backlash. Khamenei rebuked him for that, too, and Ahmadinejad had to clarify his position within the official line, which is that Israelis and Palestinians should have a referendum on whether they want to continue living in a Jewish state or not. Conservative insiders told me at the time that the Leader didn't necessarily disagree with Ahmadinejad's comments but feared his antagonistic style was unnecessary and counter-productive.
Khamanei not Ahmadinehad holds the cards in Iran, and has shown himself to be a pragmatist who has little interest in inviting a military confrontation with the U.S. Ahmadinejad for his part has proved himself to be a staunch Khamenei loyalist who will not challenge the Leader's bottom line. The problem for Khamenei is that he and Ahmadinejad are so close to each other politically that he risks a collapse in his own popularity if Ahmadinejad's polls go south. The mounting conservative pressure on Ahmadinejad indicates a desire to tone down the confrontational approach. But it doesn't suggest any backtracking on Iran's nuclear ambitions, and it remains far from clear that Khamenei would countenance a parliamentary move to ditch Ahmadinejad altogether. That would smack of capitulation to the West. If nothing else, Iran has shown its determination over the years to hold fast even if its near-term interests are undermined.

Islam is a rabid cult gone wild. Since its inception it has been a murderous, evil influence on the Middle East and then the entire world. History will show that our biggest mistake was listening to bleeding heart Liberals instead of nuking them back to the Stone Age. As long as fanatics like Moslems exist, our world will not be safe.

The situation in Iran is very interesting for a number of reasons.
It could be observed that Ahmadinejad could be viewed, in one respect, as a potential friend to the West. Why? Because as the article stated, he is the first non-cleric to head the Iranian government in 2 decades. Part of the tremendous problem in the Muslim world is the way-too-close relationship between the religion and government. The whole idea of all these self-proclaimed clerics running things in Muslim countries is just alient to us.
Unfortunately, Ahmadinejad's rhetoric about Israel sounds serioues and is quite threatening. Perhaps a lot of this is bluster in order to serve certain political purposes within the Iranian power structure, but nonetheless, that rhetoric places Iran clearly as a potential threat to Israel and stability in the region.
Frankly, the Muslim world in general seems to screwed up it is hard to make sense of it all. The viciousness of the rhetoric, the viciousness of reality in those countries, with most of the solutions to social problems being either death or physical cruelty of a high order.
Extremism along any number of dimensions in the Muslim world is actually in the mainstream, not on the fringe of those societies. Most of the people actually go along with the horrors that Islamic law requires.
Until Islam undergoes some kind of deep reformation as did Christianity, and modernizes itself as a spiritual movement that is compatible with civilization and human life, I am afraid that the Muslim world will continue to represent a serious threat to world stability and peace. It seems to be a general culture that thrives on death, cruelty and human horrors. There is nothing that will make these characteristics of Islam to be attractive or comforting. When a group of Muslim men commandeer passenger airliners and fly them into buildings, and tens of thousands of Muslims around the world dance in the streets to celebrate jihad, the world can not be amused.
It is unlikely that the Muslim world will overrun the West, but should future events lead to an imminent threat to Western civilization by Muslim forces of whatever origin, make no mistake about it: we, the West, have the capability to not only make the rubble bounce, but to transform the rubble to glass.

What will topple Ahmadinejad, his ilk , and the theocracy is that the Iranian people are like everyone else. They want peace and prosperity, not jihad, and they are not getting it. That is why Muslims are spreading to the west. They want the benefits of the west and not the theocracy. Yet it is puzzling how some of them become religious radicals in western lands. The radicals will also fail. The law of large numbers. Everything gravitates toward the mean.

I 100% agree with Vic & Chris. Pope Benedict was truthful, factual -- but not politically correct-- when he implicitly reflected, after due deliberation, that Islam was essentially a religion of the brutal, for the brutal and, indeed, by the brutal. It, including its faithful, needs to undergo a fundamental change which is perhaps next to impossible. Or else, it's doomed to failure. And the faithful -- who in reality are the most unfaithful, and the scourage on the face of the earth -- shall be annihilated. And they need to be done away with if this world has to be a peaceful place to live in. So, the evil must be destroyed -- by force, deceipt, or whatever means -- before it destroys you, me and everybody else. I think "Quayamat" (Doomsday as per the Quran) has started ticking for 'em.

Iran and America are, for all intensive purposes, not all that different. Let's take Bush and Ahmadinejad for example:
-Both are believed to have won their presidency by cheating their opponent out of it. Mahmoud in 2005 and George W in 2000.
-Both were backed by conservative religious factions that felt they had been excluded from power. Bush was backed by the religious right, Ahmadinejad by the Abadgaran.
-Both presidents have very polarizing stances on their foreign policy, creating enemies at every turn while presenting themselves in very confrontational ways.
-Both men have very little public support from their own countries and are losing more everyday as a result of their frightening policies.
-And finally, the general population of both countries is filled with compassionate, hard-working people who want to provide for their families and live in peace, but are threatened by their own leaders.
The sooner that we all can embrace these similarities, the sooner we can all realize that it is not our people that are at odds, it is our narrow-minded politicians. Iran and the United States have more to gain by being allies, not enemies. Peace in the Middle East is attainable, but not without the allegiance of both these great nations. Together we can provide a model of unity for so many others around the world, but we must hold our politicians accountable for their actions, and know when to fire them for their poor performances.

Iran's leaders have to stop hating those that can help them. If Americans didn’t advance industry their oil would have no more value than all the sand in the desert. Our hard work has lead to a higher standard of living worldwide, and extended mankind’s life by 25 years.
This is 2007, imagine in an educated civilized world even discussing not allowing women to go to a soccer game, or drive or work, or have basic human rights.
Muslims will continue to remain isolated until they accept Jesus Christ, learn that God is love not hate. If he wanted to destroy the so-called infidels don't they believe He is capable to do so?
Muslims think that their job as alleged children of God is to destroy the very thing He created. How stupid is that?
They must think God is impotent, or too stupid to make creative beings that deserve to live. If all God wanted was Muslims I am quite sure thats all he would create
after all He is omnipotent isn't He?
Please I beg of you learn grace, love, forgiveness, tolerance acceptance of others who may be different than you before the civilized world has to disallow the right for you to exercise your faith.

Followers of Islam need to control the elements of fundametalism and extremism within their own ranks before these elements lead them into a wider global conflict. Merely standing back and stating that those views do not reflect those of the majority of Muslims is not sufficient. True change must come from within.

Just think ......
for all their good or bad points leaders of the west allow their citizens to go about in relative freedom, while leaders of every extremist Islamic state and leadership are not content untill they force their religon on everyone and then go as far as to label anyone wise enough to disagree as infidels punishable by death ..... the ultimate test of their insanity and or lack of iq, is the fact that radical muslims believe that their god will be so pleased with suicide bombers for killing innocent people that he will reward them with 40 something virgins ...... that alone is proof of delusional insanity :-)

When I had listened to shortwave radio in the early 90's I had picked up the Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran once in English. They had some discussion of their faith where they had said that they considered Jesus Christ to be a prophet. And like I had done at one point in life, when a spiritual man prays he trusts God to supply his need for what it best for his life instead of asking for any specific need. I had done this in the Army when I became Born Again in 1977 because I had been displeased with things I had bought through my newspaper route earnings and decided like in one of Jesus teachings that God knows what we need before we ask him for it. I guess they imopressed me that these people were not the savages that everyone makes them out to be. Although I had heard s student from Kuwait in a class a the University of Toledo in 1979 that in Kuwait they will cut off your hand for stealing a chicken!

Islam is a religion of peace. Its fanatical elements are not greater than those of Judaism and Christianity. Jews and Christians must also control their extremists -- and they haven't done so any better than the Muslims. No one is talking about the crazy Zionists and the Evangelical Christians in the US. Certainly, Ahmadinejad is not perfect. But he is fighting for the right cause, which involves protecting his country and his fellow neighbors from western imperialism.

islam has been a murderous and evil influence on the middle east. right. Certainly, the same couldnt be said of catholocism, the religion with the bloodiest history on the planet (crusades, anyone?)Not the israeli state and the human rights violations they commit daily. with U.S. backing, i might add. or the mighty U.S. murdering iraqis in the name of "peace and democracy". every culture, locale and nationality have sick people who murder, destroy, and wreak havock, for no good reason. and it is a shame that in the "land of religous tolerance" we demonize one group of people because of the acts of a few.

It's a shame that so many people are willing to forgive violence and barbarism because "other people/cultures did it too..." Yes, it's true that christianity has a bloody past as well, but I haven't seen any wars fought in the name of Jesus in a long time, because the West has progressed beyond barbarism. The international communities of Islam, however, explicitly and implicitly encourage violence and terrorism to this day. To say that Islam is a "religion of peace" is to expose your own ignorance on Islam. It is written in the Koran, in hundreds of passages, that murder, particularly of infidels, wholly justified and required. It is even written in the Koran that Moslems who do not kill infidels should themselves be killed. Show me a passage of peace in the Koran and I'll show you a passage right next to it that obfuscates any peaceful intention.
Until "moderate" and/or "secular" Moslems start to progress, stop supporting the right-wing of Islam with their silence, and align the practice of Islam with modern cultural standards of actual peace (not tired platitudes of peace), the spread of Islamic peoples must be questioned. This is how the West beat fundamentalist Christianity (although you will never eradicate it.) And this is the only option with Islam. Until then, Islam will remain a scourge of society.

George,
You are a certifiable nut job. The right cause?
Let me ask you: what is wrong with unilateral action? What is wrong with imperialism? So, it's wonderful that a regime murders people and stifles human rights AS LONG AS IT'S NOT UNDER AN IMPERIAL BANNER? People like you huff and puff about American imperialism, but take little action in places like Darfur because of "sovereignty." Murder is murder. Death is death.
Let people in certain countries live their own lives under their own ways without foreign interference? Sure let's do that. But you forgot one thing. Stop trading with these countries. Stop visiting them. It's impossible. The world has become what it is. You also can't change history. Your socialist Euro thinking is trash.

The recent Russian sale of air defence weapons to Iran, and the more recent successful Chinese ASAT test smack a little of a co-ordinated strategy to combine (possibly with Islamists) against the West via Iran, initially to win the Middle East and Oil. Of course this is really being far too paranoid. (But let's add it to the range of strategic risks anyway).

It all started as another experiment (like stupid Communism) to give the power to Ordinary people in the World of Islam and the location of the test was decided to be the most powerful Islamic Cuntry, Iran.
Iranians are now the test- mice of the Islam without knowing it and the decision makers are close to wrap the cover on this experiment as it grows out of control.
Decision-makers, for whatever reasons you do these more than just PRIMITIVE, Stupid and Banal tests to your fellow human beings (which actually only shows how far BEHIND you yourselves are from a GREAT CIVILIZATION on Earth), STOP your not very amusing, unfunny, and least entertaining testings on Earth, and start becoming more Creative, constructive and artistic about millions of other thing you could do on and TO EARTH.
Islam .or Christianity, judaism and or any other religion for that sake has never brought creativity of mind in a constructive manner , but to only WARN people of the PRICES they will pay for the bad things they on EARTH. Well, all over the world, we need now to know what we will get for the ORDINARY GOOD THINGS we do every day just to LIV on Earth
do not worry ,Eternal PEACE on Earth is not a BORING state of mind, believe me i guarantee the EARTH (just as an ordinary man of Earh and not the prophet of a new religion), that there would be so much to do in, on, and OUT of the Earth in a complete state of Peace on Earth.
you would not even have a second of time to be BORED ABOUT.there will be great plenty of good GAMES to play, ( so you do not have to really going out to kill as a frustrated soldier looking for blood out of boredom), great farming, so we could eat healthy and make food for everyone on Earth, make and watch films, read and write books, paint terrible ,and great, bad and good works of art, and show it constantly to one another, and in the hopes that one of these artists ends up with a right vision to get us to other cosmos so we could even find out what in the world are we HERE FOR???Davinci was one of them, and a lot of those wonderful great people left us lots of visions to be busy about , not to forget the greates poet of all tme an Iranian called KHAYAAM.build great looking parks, and most suufisticated machines to visit other planets, see to it that we could explore the inner side of our own EARTH, and find out about the very many amazing information Computers have in store for us in every new Decade, ,,,,,the list is WIDE OPEN, and only MEN( and barely WOMEN) of very UNDERDEVELOPED BRAINS will exist to lead us ( which shows how more underdeveloped we are ourselves to let barbaric idiots rule us to such frenzies) .believe me if power was meant to be exercised in the hands of the not very brighter minds of people on Earth, it would have been a long ago a huge bye, and bye for EARTH.
o.k., BAD try you tested the situation and gave the power to stupid MULLAHS, Islamic barbarians, instead of the great minds in the very Islamic world today , and only to test the popularity of such individuals and to see how you would face the challenge, and NOW you are FUCKED+ having screwed the rest of the world and taken the very essence of the GOOD in Islam many 1000 years back to the Cave times, BAD, BUT enough. get rid of the CURRENT REGIME in IRAN ( shah, son,+ instant western attitudes just as DICTATORIALLY as the silly test started) and stop the monkey Business before your disgusting TESTING makes an ASS OUT OF ALL OF US.

It is immoral to accept Islam as instrument of policy, war and .........it is great democratic teaching,.....You know, this is the main plan of "great states",governors to use iIslam this way,and to cover their real policy and implement own interests,

I don't know what religion Chris and Vic claim to belong to but I think I have an idea (Ramesh, I will talk to you later). Go read your own Bible and Torah and you will realize it is full of stories about killing, murder, and adultery. All holy books were revealed over a sixteen hundred years ago. They tell stories of the times they were revealed in. In general, all religions teach tolerance and peace.
You two are hypocrites. You critize I slam for being a violent religion and yet call for nuking Muslims off the face of the earth. I know for a fact that neither TRUE Christianity nor Judiasim (I am Muslim, my wife is Christian, and my maternal Grandmother was Jewish) teaches your evil thinking. Only the radical Neo-Cons and extremist Zionists like the two of you think that way. Contrary to your ignorant beleifs, Muslims are not the ones trying to force the return of the Messiah and Armagedon. Nor are they the ones that beleive every one should convert to your religion to be saved. God created ALL of us equally. Leave judging each individual no matter what their religion, sex, or race is to him and him only.

I beleive thtat Ahmadinejad is preparing the country to be offered to US easily. Remember Iraq, first sanctions step by step and then attacking a country which is ready to be attacked & has no power to defend itself. Ahmadinejad, is taking the country to the point where there is no return; econmically, socially, politically etc.
It is clear that US will not attack a country which has not been under sanction for a couple of years. This is the way it has been at least in Iraq and Afganistan. We should ask white house what Ahmadinejad is programmed to do next.
And why US will attack Iran? to give the people freedom? Never, to have Iran's natural resources the way US did with Iraq too. And Afganistan,it was one of the best resources for drugs, who on earth would neglect such a good turnover of drugs from Afganistan? Would US?

i agree with columnist dave broder: the u.s. had better start using its collective head to get us out of this mess, and cease to rely on the unreliable, i.e. "gut feelings". dick cheney should be jailed. his repeated insistance that those who favor troop withdrawal are "soft on terror" is the ongoing attitude of the bush administration towards anyone who disagrees with its foreign policy decisions. even in the face of obvious failure, he persists with his tired, hate-filled rhetoric, which, to my mind, suggests nothing less than treason, seeing as how his voice has helped lead our country down a disastrous path. being that it would be unconscionable to continue to sacrifice america's sons and daughters for his and his cronies' lusty ambitions (and let's face it, folks, oil has been one of the chief targets of this fiasco from the start), one could add mass murder to his crimes. i single out our vice-president because of his steady influence on a commander-in-chief who, intellectually at least, is not up to the task of leading our nation at such a critical time. his hold on dubya is scary, a fact that is clearly not lost on the president's own father. cheney has become an anachronism, therefore he should simply shut up, both in public and behind the closed doors of the oval office. someone please allow mr. bush to listen to sound minds for a change..i have grandchildren nearing adulthood, and i fear for them most because of idiots like cheney; apprehensions toward outside forces pale in comparison! after all, one can throw up shields against invaders, but it is much more difficult to guard against parasites within. as mr. broder suggests, the only thing "soft on terror" is dick cheney's brain.

We can pray that God Himself will rid the world of Ahmadinejad in a natural way or means! I do believe God's Wrath will come down upon him the "Rain Of Fire." Hopefully, The Iranian people will rid themselves of him. I think he has designs on ruling Iraq, the Iraqi's can't seem to govern themselves, so he must be watched at all times! The difference: Ahmadinejad, I heard is very smart, but Bush is dumb as a post, some Doctors even say that Bush has Psychological problems, Ahmadinejad, maybe.
If the world didn't want to have a Cleric President, they should start accepting whatever pesident Iran elected. If the west brings him down, most likely the next one will be a cleric. Change does not happen in an instant, and usually not the way everyone wants. It starts with a single, small step and if the next step is as high as a wall, they will consider not stepping the way you want and maybe not even move anymore.

It would better suffice to compare Ahmadinejad to Hitler. Ahmadinejad's rise to power was based on spewing hateful rhetoric against the Jews that appealed to a large minority. This large majority blames the problems in the Middle East on the Jews (similar to Hitlers rhetoric about the Jews corrupting Germany). This was done with the backing of the mullahs.
Ahmadinejad's banal plan for domination of the Middle East is being disguised to the ignorant portion of the Iranian populace as a plan to free the middle east of Isreal.
The parallelisms between what Hitler did and what Ahmadinejad is doing is just plain scary. The world better wake up to the intentions of Iran, Russia and China or the repercussion will be felt for decades to come.
The problem with the Middle East is not the religion but the head of states. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey allow, even to this day, extremists to rear their execrable message in public without repercussions. They continue to allow religion to play a major force in the roles of politics and the legal system often allowing decisions to be made that are not in the best interest of the populace or the country. They placate the extremist as long as extremists distract the populace from the high poverty levels, the government corruption and the inequality in their society.
Until the moderate populace of the countries in the Middle East rise up above the message of hatred, the belief in sectarian rights and take back what is theirs the Middle East will never see peace in any fashion.

Wow, another fact made up ON THE SPOT. Ahmadinejad was brought to power because he promised he would help the working class by sharing oil profits, etc etc. In getting elected he said NOTHING about Israel. What a fool.
There are no parallels between what Ahmadinejad is DOING and what Hitler was DOING. Another retard bites the dust.

The teaching from the Qur'an..."kill those who are idolators, pagans" wherever you shall find them: and besiege them, lay wait for them with every kind of ambush: but if they shall convert, and observe prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their way for God is Gacious, Mercyful (66)
The Bible says:
(John 8:44)
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
(NIV)
Compare to the teachings of Jesus:
Bible Matt 5:39-45
39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
(NIV)

Steal Iraq's resources ? Last i checked, we pay $50 a barrel and cost $2 to produce it.
Don't try to make mash a piece of the puzzle in that doesn't fit, the Iraq thing wasn't imperialism. Simply misplaced vengeance, although Saddam deserved hanging (despite my opposition to death penalty).
Posted by Joe Rust | January 20, 2007 7:38 PM
And i have no idea where to begin on the drug thing with Afghanistan. You've watched too many consipiracy theories or played Metal Gear (the Patriot thing) too much.
Posted by Joe Rust | January 20, 2007 7:40 PM
Payam is absolutely correct. This is a bunch of non-Quran reading, Bible-thumping nutcases trying to "quote" verses from someone elses religious book based on something their even-nuttier religious leader (aka preacher) said to them last Sunday. Christians do a lot of good in the world but 99 percent of the murderers in prison are listed as Christians. Does this mean that 99 percent of Christians are murderers....absolutely not. What it DOES mean is that you all need to back off the religion-blaming rhetoric and stop believing the hype that our political leaders are spitting at us to keep our attention away from the mess they are making in the world.
Posted by William Thomas | January 20, 2007 7:43 PM
Why don't all you people just learn to live and let live. If Americans would learn to do this, there might just be a chance for world peace.
Posted by Alex | January 20, 2007 7:55 PM
And another thing....the fact that some of you believe YOUR God is the only God and that someone elses God is false just shows how ignorant you all are. All religions are power establishments to keep the masses under control. They gotta make you SCARED of what is going to happen to you after you die so you will do the right thing while you are alive. If the "right" thing happens to be go overseas and kill a bunch of Muslims, some of you "Christians" will believe it is your God-fearing duty to listen to your President. If the "right" thing is to hop on a plane and fly it into the prime example of western capitalism, you Jihadist (notice I did not say some Muslims) will be first in line to volunteer. You are all crazy. but as long as I live I will support the right of all of you wackies to voice your opinions. Why? Because, one day, I may run for President of the United States and I will have to convince a lot of you to vote for me....and you will because I will say what you want to hear instead of what I really believe. and history show s that that stragegy works!

I don't like what Ahmadinejad has said or done of late (especially his recent "debate" about the holocaust). I don't like watching or hearing about women being stoned after being raped (an incredibly brutal and hateful thing). I don't like seeing or hearing about the heads of infidels being cut off. I couldn't believe that anyone could be so utterly EVIL that they could think hijacking all those planes and crashing them into buildings, killing thousands of innocents, could possibly be justified. But what did I see? Thousands dancing in the streets rejoicing at this act of barbarism and cowardice. Who were these people? Christians? Jews? Hindus?
You Islamists who post on this site can try all you want to convince people like me that Islam is a peaceful religion but until the religion's actions match your claims of "love and peace" we won't believe you.
Each day I become more and more distrustful of Islam and one day your actions will lead to the confrontation between our two worlds that you have been striving for.

Remember the picture of Rummy shaking hands with Saddam??? That along with the threat on H W's life all ADD UP TO "REVENGE"-
It was a long time coming but the means and reasons for attack were given to these vengeful people on 911.

What ever happenning in the world now a days is just because of US and West dual standards. To make criticism on one thing is easy but to face hard realities is
entirely different. World powers are destroying the beatiful world of ours just because lust of power and money. Take example of Iraq, in the past US and Uk supplies chemical agents to sadam (at that time he was a darling to them) to murder innocent humans. but when time pass-on and there is no interest left for US and Uk, then these two countries trial sadam for these murders---thats bulshit. In Iran, if US thinks that he will conquer, i must say she is dreaming in day light. The damages are much more severe then Iraq nowdays.
I am taking anybody side but i am on the side of humanity which people are forgetting. Please despite of that what religion or culture or race he/she from ---------save humanity.

Hey Fed Up, when was the last time you heard of Iranians suicide bombing or driving airplanes into buildings? Don't group Iranians together with Arabs just because both are muslim, you pathetic excuse for a rational human being.
Even then, to call all Arabs that is also quite stupid.

"Islam is a rabid cult gone wild. Since its inception it has been a murderous, evil influence on the Middle East and then the entire world. "
Since it's inception? Please provide links/evidence showing that it has been an murderous influence on the entire world from its inception until 1970?

Let me explain the stuff. Muslims, Christians, and Jews all believe in the same God. Anybody else's "gods" is what is meant by other gods are false. Muslims see the taking of the Holy Land by the Jews as a crime towards all of Islam, which is why some people chant "Death to Israel"; there are differences between the Holy Land of Israel from long back and today's Israel. Also, "Death to America" means death to the supporters of what is seen as a crime against Islam of taking the Holy Land.
Oh, and by the way, Iran cannot be a nuclear threat to the US unless it can fire missiles 7000+ miles. They would only be a nuclear threat to Israel, which the people of the United States are making such a big deal out of. If you're Jewish or something, I understand, but that's about it. Iranian nukes will not be able to reach the US for a long time and by the time they can, technology will have developed far enough so the US can actually prevent the actual detonation of the bomb on their soil. Fellow people of America, don't think Iran can threaten America unless America actually invades Iran.
Posted by Marwan | January 20, 2007 11:07 PM
I would like to make one thing known. Iran is NOT entirely a country of Islam. And do not even begin to try and convince me otherwise... I AM an Iranian. Since the Arab invasion of Iran in the 7th century Iranians have been battling a culture that is not entirely our own. Iranians had Islam forced upon them and that is why there are so many Parsi [Persian] people in India [they fled!]. MOST people of Iran yes pray and yes are Muslim but it is not who we ARE. We are FIRST Persian and THEN we are Muslims. No I'm not trying to offend any Muslims [myself being one] but when I [and many people that I know] think of Persians and our heritage we think of Hafez and Rumi and the our great Kings such as Cyrus the Great etc...
I also would like to address the oil issue. Iran is in the top 5 of the world's largest oil exporters. Britain started using and abusing Iran's oil, giving Iran no choice in the matter. Mossadegh, our prime minster before that Shah, nationalized the oil and kept it for the Iranians themselves. Our oil is our oil and there would be an impact on the world's oil if Iran did not export it. So now let's take a guess as to who helped overthrow him? America. It was America’s first overthrow of a democratically-elected government in the Middle East. There you go, the "founders of democracy" overthrowing the "Middle East's first democratic government". Then they then put the Shah in power. Who then put the Shah in the US to not allow him back to Iran so he couldn't take control of the government? Carter. Anyways, I appreciate all of those who are open-minded enough to understand there is more to Iran that Ahmadinejad [just as there is more to America than Bush] and I wish that those who think all Iranians are Muslim terrorists would open their minds a little. [BTW Iranians have not been involved in any of the terrorist attacks on NYC, London, Bangkok, etc...]

dear fed up ;
No one is trying to convince you. Fact of the matter is, you can't convince the average white man in america of anything( no racist connatation, just an observation) You have your ridiculous opinions, and keep them. but you cant expect anyone to be silent when their faith, or way of life is constantly attacked and misrepresnted. And as for the heads of infidels being cut off. I agree that it is a brutal way to execute someone, and that these crazy people are, well, crazy. HOWEVER, shooting someone up with a denilitating poison is no better. islam Is a peaceful religion. But how can a religion act, dumbass? last time i checked, a religion couldnt do anything. people can. and people can do whatever is in their abilities to do, including being a hateful, stupid "im always right and fuck everybody els" white man

Ahmadinejad should stop threatening Israel ...the price he will pay is going to be very high.....
Posted by Salome | January 21, 2007 3:19 PM
One thing that is perfectly logical and cannot be argued with is this....
If group x attacks group y then people in group y will most probably suffer and lose people.... thus group y will develop hatred and have a wish to attack group x... .
this will result in group x being attacked again .... which will result in group x attacking group y..... i think it is fair to say at this point both group x and group y will begin to detest each other ... over time escalation of hostility will occur and another cycle of attacks continue....
Once you reach this stage its very hard to get out.... you are in a cycle of violence.... this is evident in the palestinian israeli conflict... its also evident now in the iraq conflict and the afganistan conflict.... this sort of phenomenon can occur anywhere amongst anybody regardless of religion, faith or type of society....
On this occasion its primarily western countries such as the US and UK and arab and muslim nations such as iraq and afghanistan...
It could just as easily have been some other groups ... a good example is the tutsi's and hutu's in rwanda which kicked off late last century or the bugti and mazari tribes in pakistan which is still on going or as in pakistan and india which is thankfully quite peaceful at the moment.

Most of you folks on here are completely insane. How you get to the pc from within whatever loony bin in which you reside is beyond me. I don't hold out much hope for anything if the tipical web-posters actually represent the people of the world!

The middle east is full of fanatics that have been killing each other for a thousand years nothing will change.

Maybe the cause of him waving his fallacies in the air is different?
How many more years before Iran will run out of oil?
What does Israel have access to that Iran doesn't?(Mediterranean sea?)
Is developing nuclear technology cheaper than developing other sources?
Is 3,000 centrifuges even enough to enrich enough uranium to make a bomb?
If we asked them to eradicate their uranium, doesn't it take thousands of years for uranium to decay by half?
Does Iran want Israel because it has access to water?
Does Iran want money?
Did Iran ever distinctly deny the holocaust?
Is Ahmadinejad trying to pull the old "rally around the flag" crap that our own president has pulled?
What drives Ahmadinejad to do what he does?
Is Ahmadinejad even educated?
What is Ahmadinejad's ultimate goal for Iran?
I'm Indian and I think his goal is to make his nation industrialized. I believe he is constrained by a couple of things, 1. Religion of country, 2. Academic Capability of country 3. Oil Supply=its running out and I think,(I don't know, but i Think) that he is running out of substantial oil supplies, and I know that his country depends on oil profits.4. I believe he needs congressional approval for projects regarding nuclear program. 5. He has no control over nuclear program as president. 6. He coerces teh people with nuclear program oversight into doing what he wants by "rally around the flag" against America, a nation long hated by Iran. 7. Someone please reply to my questions, if they know the whole scoop and can bring facts to the table. Tell me if I've completely missed the boat.
Thanks.
