Whatever Happened to Joss Whedon?
I was dickering around with Ain't It Cool News's Comic-Con updates, which contain some tidbits about Joss Whedon -- he's thinking about doing a BBC movie about Rupert Giles from Buffy. And I felt a pang when I realized I hadn't seen anything by Whedon onscreen since Serenity two years ago.
Anyway, there was a link to an incredibly charming webcomic Whedon did called "Sugarshock." It's exactly as fluffy as it sounds ("Dude, GWAR fell on your car!") but it -- I think I said this -- charmed me incredibly. And I felt a double-pang when I realized how good it was. Come back, Joss Whedon! Make Goners or whatever it is you have to do, just come back!

Joss has been doing a lot in the world of comics - he's worked on some X-Men projects, as well as the comic version of Buffy (which is considered the canonical season 8). But it's just not the same as watching actors bring his work to life, hearing that amazingly crackling dialogue jump from their lips to my ears. In fact, my World of Warcraft guild is currently posting favorite Firefly and Buffy quotes on the guild forums. I spend far too much time on Wikipedia, reading quotes and wishing I was home watching my Firefly DVDs...
But he's been talking about a Giles movie for years. *Crosses fingers*

Don't tell me you missed the fantastic episode of The Office that Whedon directed this year, Business School! It was fantastic, and it even had (dun, dun, duuun) a vampire bat!

I just read this article over at Wizard about 12 projects Whedon has going on. He has some great runs on Astonishing X-Men and Runaways and some other small film projects in the works (including one with Summer Glau from Firefly). I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him soon.
Here's the article at Wizard:

I did see that episode of the Office. I had no idea Whedon directed it. Should have known.

Mr. Whedon is doing good things in the pen & Ink world.
Consider if you will Buffy Season 8, #5 "The Chain"
A fighter from here goes far away
To a place where the locals can't get along
In order to counter a threat both to us and to squabbling others.
....................This sure feels like a metaphor for the current war.
With but little effort who the slugs, fairies and bird folk stand for in our world can be skulled out.
As for the Big Bad Demon (& horde) think mysigonistic, fundi theocracy currently working on ways to reduce us, and those like us, to ash.
......... Interesting that Joss, who's said to diss the military, should state the sitch that ours (and all those in the coalition) are currently facing.
Now there are lots of folks today
Who say that it's no skin off our collective nose
If a pack of slugs and a danged flock fairies kill each other or get killed far away.
I guess either you feel that connective tug or you choose to ignore it. ......................................................................... Just like Whedon says.
