The Awesomeness of Dead Fantasy II
I wouldn't necessarily recommend that you watch all 11 minutes of this. But I don't see how any true green-blooded nerd wouldn't want to watch some of it. Dead Fantasy II (there's also a Dead Fantasy I) is a ridiculous fan film in which the women of Final Fantasy and the women of Dead or Alive kick the crap out of each other in about 90,000 awesome ways. Watch for a couple of unannounced cameos further in -- video game pantheons are mixed freely and with no regard for continuity. We're in the multiverse here.
The auteur is somebody named Monty Oum, and my helm is off to him, whoever he is -- the choreography and camerawork are just relentlessly cool throughout. Any commenter who can clarify the technical side of how a film like this gets made (not to mention the legal side?), I'd be curious. Personal favorite scenes include the vertical wall-sliding battle that starts at 3:30, and a very quick, slick bottle-smashing sequence at 6:15. Yours? And who is that white-winged lady who enters at 7:15? Help?

The white winged lady is Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy 8, sporting Squall's gunblade it seems. Very cool video.

The white-winged lady is Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII - though she was sans wings (apart from a wing design on the back of her clothes) in FF8. The Gun-sword she's carrying belongs to Squall, the main character of FF8.

Now I want to see part 1 And part 3 when it comes out. Is this the same guy that did the Metroid vs Halo one? Or someone different. The models don't look similar to probably someone different.
Also? Nerf Rinoa

And I hope he throws in some love for FF6 in the next one XD

Bloody hell. Speaking as a 3D animator, that is one hell of a lot of work. I honestly have no idea how one or two people could pull all of that off in any reasonable amount of time.

Speaking as a nongaming sort of nerd, if Rinoa had the ice powers, it would have been faster (but less interesting) to just freeze all the water in her opponents' bodies, eh? Instant cell ownage.

The bottle thing is from one of the Drunken Master flicks (forget which one). Still very cool.
And here's another request for a link to the first video.

Or I can just google it. For anyone that cares and hasn't already hit google,

And after watching the clip a second time, the whole bottle sequence is a definite Drunken Master homage. If memory serves, all of her moves in that sequence mimic Jackie Chan's from the move. I like how he slipped that in there. It just looks cool to people who haven't seen the movie, but is really fun for people who have.

I'm not a 3D expert, but based on the low quality, my suspicion is that he used an engine designed for video games to build it. That would require only scripting the broad movements, and let the engine take care of the rest. I can't believe someone would bother keyframing the whole thing in Max or Maya and then not render it at a decent quality. And that would have taken years. He might have been aiming for old vg quality, or, more likely, he was using a vg engine. I've seen somewhat similar things with gaming engines in USC's new interactive program, but never like this and never to tell a story (well, sort of). Remarkable film. If the filmmaker can learn the concept of FOCUS (the eye and the story, not the camera) he'll go far.

He did the awesome Haloid too:

I'm not sure how he did it to be honest.

Hey, I bet I have the most nerd-tastic sighting of all.
Check it: halfway through the video, when they're sliding down the tower and JUST before that axe-lady shows up, Tifa throws a multi-kick-combo that's blocked, including a jumping block from the Dead chick.
It's an homage to that video of a Street Fighter tournement, EVO 2004 i guess, where Ken blocks Chun Li's crazy kick combo and takes her down. The crowd of people watching it goes nuts.
I get extra nerd points for spotting that one.

The vertical wall sliding battle is taken from FFVII AC Cloud and Sephiroth battle.
Repeating one of previous posters comments: nerf Rinoa! I would also love to see Yuna's summonings but that might be just a bit too overpowering ;)
All in all, I must say it's excellently done.
I can't wait for more!
