I'm Starting to Get the Point of That Hulk Movie

There's a new trailer out for the rebooted Ed Norton version of The Hulk that opens June 13th. It's here.

I think I'm finally getting the point of this movie. It's about a sensitive guy who can't control his super-strong radioactive alter ego. That's it. There's nothing else. Norton and this director, Louis Leterrier (the auteur of, wait for it, Transporter 2), have set out to raise this franchise from disaster to mediocrity. And they just...might...do it!

But seriously, I will go see this. I always like watching Norton on screen, if only because he looks like an actual nerd and doesn't tend to over-act. And you gotta love that old school Hulk TV show music.

In other news, Harry Potter has dropped off the bestseller lists for the first time in 10 years.

Totally. That's the thing. They're bringing the series back by thrusting a little more - er - manhood into it. Ms. Dargis over at the Times suggests that female audience members are being ignored completely. Her thesis is one that is worth considering. But Ang Lee's cerebral take on the franchise just. didn't. sell. Blah.

I look forward to Batman. And I loved Iron Man. And supposedly that's all a lead up to some great sequels and cross-overs.

We'll see what happens from here on out, won't we?

Um, was there ever another point to the Hulk?

Here's something that never happens:
"Before Hulk smash puny humans, Hulk want to lecture on importance of preserving biodiversity." (Apologies to Selman for aping his Concerned The Blob character).

Did somebody try to make that happen?

Comment: The Movie:

I just want to be on the record as stating that I still totally don't get the point of that Hulk movie.

I hear everyone arguing that the only reason that the last film did poorly was because Ang Lee's interpretation was "too sensitive." Hasn't anyone considered the fact that a movie about a scientist who turns into a big green angry lummox is just not very exciting to a lot of people, regardless of who is helming the project? You can make the film either as slick and gritty or epic and poignant as you want, but the fact remains that when your protagonist frequently turns into a big green mute who just breaks things, you've really shot yourself in the foot storywise.

And why the eff does he have to be green? I really hate Marvel's/the studio's lack of innovation here. As if we won't recognize who the Hulk is if he were a different color? and why does his hair have to be green too?

However, if the closing shot of the film is Edward Norton hitchhiking down a road with that sad music accompanying, I will probably see it.

Tuco:

Maybe they just need to find a Tyler Durden for Norton's Hulk! We can then watch the Hulk kick his own ass, now that would be cool.
He can get all big and green then beat the crap out of himself.
And you could have fun with a Marla Singer girlfriend. Then it could be rated R.
