Florida 2008 Poll

New Quinnipiac Poll out of Florida today. Some of the highlights: In his first showing, unannounced GOP candidate Fred Thompson picked up 6 percent, which is less than his national numbers but one point better than Mitt Romney, who received just 5 percent. On the Democratic side, not much movement for national frontrunners Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (who came in at 36 percent and 13 percent, respectively), but John Edwards surged 5 points from last month's Quinnipiac Poll to reach 11 percent. Al Gore, who also is unannounced, came it at 16 percent, three points better than last month.

Rudy Giuliani (35 percent), Sen. John McCain (15 percent) and Newt Gingrich (11 percent) all lost three points from last month's poll, but otherwise remained the top three GOP candidates.

In a head-to-head match-up, Giuliani still beats Clinton (50-40), Edwards (50-40) and Barack Obama (52-36).

President Bush's job approval rating in Florida is at 37 percent, two points better than a Feb. 7 Quinnipiac poll.
