Bush on the Schedule

President Bush isn't doing a lot of campaigning these days, for obvious reasons, though he can still pull in the dough for Republican Congressional candidates who need it. Still, I'm a bit surprised to see him on the schedule to do a fund raiser for Republican Rep. Dave Reichert in Bellevue, Washington, at the end of August.
Reichert represents the 8th Congressional district, which is Republican-leaning but definitely considered a swing district. Reichert narrowly defeated Democrat Darcy Burner in 2006, winning by just over 7,000 votes.* Burner is already signed up to take another run at the former King County Sheriff, but first she'll have to beat back fellow Democrat Rodney Tom in the primary, who jumped into the race two weeks ago.
Incidentally, those who followed last year's race will recall there was a bit of a hubub created by President Bush's visit to WA-8 right before the election when a middle school bus driver was fired after giving Bush the "one finger salute" as the presidential motorcade went by.
*The original version of the post said Riechert beat Burner by 2,600, which was incorrect. The CNN results cited in the original version represented only 31% of precincts reporting. The official results were delayed due to severe flooding in parts of the district.
