Patrick Ruffini says he's been having lots of fun playing around with RCP's new Fantasy '08 game, and though I'm clearly not an impartial party, I have to agree Fantasy '08 it IS a lot of fun.
In fact, I've spent more time checking my positions over the last few days than I probably should have, but just as with a real life portfolio it's hard not to be obsessed watching the numbers go. We may have to put a disclaimer on the game about how damn addictive it is.
Anyway, it appears I'm not doing quite as well as Patrick. Instead of buying Rudy in New Hampshire, I took the other tack and shorted Romney, given that his lead has declined noticeably in the last round of polls. Buying Rudy was probably a better call. I also bought some McCain a few days back, hoping to capitalize on the bump he's received with his "No Surrender" tour. He's now back about to where he was before.
One last thing to remember is that buying a contract does not lock you into a position forever. For example, if you buy Hillary at 65 to win the nomination, you don't necessarily have to hold that contract until the nomination is decided. If Hillary trades up to 75 you could get sell and get out of the position with an 10-point profit and likewise if Clinton trades down to 50, and you no longer wanted to have the position, you could sell and get out with a 15 point loss.
You are never locked into a single trade, as you can always just sell whatever position you bought, and buy back any position you sold.
By the way, if anyone out there has any incredibly hot trading tips, I'm all ears.
