Thompson's 'Whirlwind'

Fred Thompson, making his inaugural whirlwind tour around the early primary states, isn't doing much to counter his image as a less than enthusiastic campaigner. Thompson hits New Hampshire this weekend with three stops, in Portsmouth, Manchester and Nashua, followed by stops in Greenville and Columbia, South Carolina, on Monday.

That's five stops in three days. By comparison, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will stop in North Conway, Berlin, Littleton and Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Cherokee, Spencer (two stops), Sanborn and Le Mars, Iowa, between today and tomorrow. That's nine stops in two days.

If Thompson wants to impress voters in primary states, he might need to ramp up his schedule of local stops, instead of running the 30,000 feet campaign.
