New NH Poll

St. Anselm College is getting into the polling game in New Hampshire. Today they release their first poll, conducted with SRBI Research. The poll, conducted 10/15-21, surveyed 1514 primary voters, with a 4.1% margin of error for Democrats, a 4.5% margin for Republicans and a 4.8% margin for undeclared voters. State front-runners Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney expand their leads, while Fred Thompson sees another reason to skip the Granite State entirely.

Democrats
Clinton 43
Obama 22
Edwards 14

Republicans
Romney 32
Giuliani 22
McCain 15
Paul 7
Huckabee 6
Thompson 5

As we wrote in Morning Thoughts, 41% of undeclared voters say they will choose a Democratic ballot, while just 19% will pick the GOP side. That's bad news for John McCain, who won the state in 2000 on the strength of his popularity among independents.

And, building the credibility of Ron Paul as a potential spoiler, his support in the state whose "Live Free or Die" motto belies the electorate's libertarian leanings is on the rise. If Paul gets any convention delegates at all, they are likely to come from New Hampshire.
