VA Poll

The Washington Post is out with a new poll in Virginia. First the Senate.

In a Republican primary match up, former Governor (and recent Presidential candidate) Jim Gilmore bests Congressman Tom Davis by 19 points, 48% to 29%. In hypothetical general election match ups, both get stomped by former Democratic Governer (and almost Presidential candidate) Mark Warner:

Warner (D) 61
Gilmore (R) 31

Warner (D) 63
Davis (R) 28

Favorable Ratings: Warner 67%, Gilmore 40%, Davis 28%.

Tomorrow the 84 members of the Republican State Central Committee will vote on whether to hold a primary (probably in June) or a convention to select its nominee.

In the Preisdential race on the Republican side, Giuliani leads McCain by 14:

Republicans
Giuliani 34
McCain 20
Thompson 19
Romney 9

The Post did not provide complete data on the Democrats, but instead wrote this: "About half of Virginia Democrats would vote for Clinton, compared with one-quarter who say they support Obama and 11 percent who favor former senator John Edwards (N.C.). All other Democrats are in the single digits."
