Conservative Elites Don't Like the Arkansas Governor

Robert Novak (Washington, D.C)

The rise of evangelical Christians as the motive force that blasted the GOP out of minority status during the past generation always contained an inherent danger if these new Republican acolytes supported not merely a conventional conservative but one of their own. That has happened now with Huckabee. (Nov 26)

Rich Lowry (New York)

Like Dean, Huckabee is an under-vetted former governor who is manifestly unprepared to be president of the United States. (Dec 14)

George Will (Washington, D.C)

Huckabee combines pure moralism with incoherent populism. (Dec 2)

Hugh Hewitt (California)

Given all the hits Huckabee has taken in the last four days, the question becomes: Where will the folks who drop him move their allegiances? ...... The likeliest landing zone is Team Romney (Dec 4)

Meanwhile outside of NYC, DC and LA the Republican voters in Iowa and South Carolina seem to like the "manifestly unprepared" populist from Arkansas who also happened to be a Governor for over ten years.
