The Endorsements

Clearly, having the endorsement of Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and Deval Patrick did Barack Obama little good last night. Hillary Clinton thumped him by 15 points in Massachusetts.

Nor did the endorsement and campaigning of Maria Shriver, Caroline Kennedy, and Oprah Winfrey help Obama neutralize the gender gap in California. Clinton beat Obama by 25 points among women in California, winning the state by 10 points overall.

The one place where an endorsement may have made the difference for Obama is Missouri, where he had the enthusiastic backing of Senator Claire McCaskill. Obama ended up winning Missouri by 10,000 votes, and he did it by beating Clinton among women voters by a single point, 49-48.
