The possible stepping down of NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer brings to question who would succeed him.
Lt. Gov. David Paterson is next line to the post. Paterson is legally blind and is the first black lieutenant governor in New York. In 2002, he became the first non-white State Senate minority leader. His father, Basil Peterson, was the first non-white Secretary of State in New York.
Paterson appears to be involved in a court case of his own. According to the Daily News, Paterson is involved in a discrimination lawsuit filed against the state of New York for allegedly firing a white photographer solely because of his race and replacing him with a black photographer. Paterson was in the State Senate at the time.
