Osama Strikes Again
Gawker has already made the best joke you can about this:

The implicit compliment the NY Post is paying to Clinton may explain why Media Matters is not already on top of it.

Hard to believe the NY Post could make such a mistake. They're usually so accurate.
Posted by jbk | February 14, 2007 2:40 PM
CNN made the same mistake about a month ago.
Posted by Carol Royce | February 14, 2007 3:13 PM
Yup, CNN did and spent a whole day immediately apologizing. Actually, great for making a point of distinguishing between the two in the addled main stream right of right.

This can't be an accident. How many typos have there been of other Presidential candidates names in the same time period? Just asking.

I just cannot believe that Americans care for such superficial things when they elect a President. Who wins the Presidential election in the US affects the whole world. In todays world we all are interconnected and are responsible for our actions. Its incredible how Americans are so superficial. They give Democracy a bad name. They call others Islamic fascists and religious extremists when the Christians in the US are extremists themselves. So am I to say Christian Fascists????? No I will not because even when I disagree with you I will extend my hand in friendship to reach a common ground.But Americans cannot do that because its either the church that rules their behavior or the material gains that come from relationships. By the way they call it "Strategic Relationships". For once think from your heart and let your heart guide your actions. When you vote in 2008 think not only about yourself but also your brothers and sisters that are affected by your actions in the ballot box. Another thing, would you all vote for Barack Obama if he was white. Yes I am sure you would. ts not about where he studied and with who his name resembles. These are just excuses for larger issues. come on get on with it and deal with your conscience of racism that lurks the deepest parts of your lives. Remember it was the same church going people who swore by the bible and prayed to god that sold people on the roads!!! Therefore I think its time for some trauma healing out here, time to move ahead of what the bible or the Koran or the Bhagwat Gita says. Its time to listen to your heart and vote. Vote for a person who is refreshing, has new ideas, is compassion and can mend your image with us (rest of the world). Vote for someone who can build bridges instead of destroying what was built only to give it to the rich contractors. Vote for someone who can make lives easier for the many who live third world conditions in the US itself. Rebuild your own house before you tell me by house needs painting.

As a thoughtful American, I appreciate your earnest comments, Change Agent. Many of us are now optimistic that we can move beyond shallow topics, move out of the shadow of fear, and move the world forward. Peanut butter jelly.
Posted by Randy Marsh | February 14, 2007 11:34 PM
Change Agent, you may have noticed from reading left and right wing blogs that not all Americans think the same way. Saying they do reveals the same kind of bigotry of which you complain. So take your last line to heart. Hope you understand!

Can you not ban Question Hillary? Are there no guidelines for nuisance commenters?
Jeez. This is turning into a trash dump.
Posted by The Saint | February 15, 2007 2:54 AM
Change Agent you don't seem to know what the koran teaches! Do you know what sharia means? And a good muslim has to be an islamic fascist, meaning becoming a mujaheedeen, jihad, martyrdom and all that!
Posted by jon bon | February 15, 2007 3:03 AM
The Saint: So you think its dump huh...well what is there to say to you? Nothing I guess with a pen name of the Saint there isn't much to expect I guess. So what should the guidelines be...follow the spin that is fed to you everyday by the Media. Naive I must say....
Jon Bon: First thing first, I never said follow your religion to define your relationships. I said follow your heart. Secondly, I admire your in dept knowledge on the Koran. Kudos to you!!!!! You really are a pundit on religion!!!!!!! Congratulations to all those who tried to portray that this is about being in war with Islam and that there is fundamentally something wrong with Islam and not their policy and institutions that define relationships and interaction patters....They have finally succeeded in getting their message across.

More of this please:
``````````
The news director of the public radio station in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has directed his staff to "ignore national stories quoting unnamed sources." He also called on other news outlets to join this policy.
Bill Dupuy sent the following to his news staff.
*
Effectively immediately and until further notice, it is the policy of KSFR's news department to ignore and not repeat any wire service or nationally published story about Iran, China, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia or any other foreign power that quotes an "unnamed" U.S. official.
What we have suspected and talked about at length before is now becoming clear. "High administration officials speaking on the condition of anonymity," "Usually reliable Washington sources," and others of the like were behind the publicity that added credibility to the need to go to war against Afghanistan and Iraq.
Our news department covers local news. But, like local newspapers and others, we occassionally are taken in by national stories that we have no way to verify.
This is a small news department with a small reach. We cannot research these stories ourselves. But we can take steps not to compromise our integrity. We should not dutifully parrot whatever comes out of Washington, on the
wire or by whatever means, no matter how intriguing and urgent it sounds, when the source is unnamed.
I am also calling on our colleagues in other local news departments -- broadcast and print -- to take the same professional approach.
Posted by Jiefu | February 15, 2007 9:32 AM
Change Agent, would we all vote for Barack Obama if he were white? I don't know. I don't think anyone would be at all interested in him if he were white. His being an African-American is one of the things that makes him fascinating to many people.
Instead, we should have a *Ministry of Truthiness*:
****Papa Bear’s new favorite ice cream? Ben & Jerry’s unveiled “Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream,” a new ice cream flavor that promises customers the “sweet taste of liberty in your mouth.” “I’m not afraid to say it. Dessert has a well-known liberal agenda,” Colbert said. “What I hope to do with this ice cream is bring some balance back to the freezer case.”****
Of course, he then apologized. Surely you aren't going to hold a gaffe against a politician given the verbal stylings of GW Bush.
Now turning to the difference between a verbal error later corrected and a lie, please explain the following:
Oliver North went to the same meeting in Iraq that Lieberman and McCain attended with military staff. North says the military wanted more trainers, not 20K more troops. LIEberman and McCain LIED and said the staff wanted more troops.
Isn't it worse for these two individuals to LIE
about the military then a corrected statement?
It's no use defending a gifted man to the ignorant who have their minds made up. Like Religion, you will rarely change someone's opinion on politics. Yet another reason why the workd would be better without religion :)
Simply put: Obama scares Republicans. He has a Bobby Kennedy factor that unites and inspires. The GOP is currently in retreat mode from November and trying hard to stall the Obama campaign while searching for their next leader.
Don't blame the GOP. It is human nature to find fault in your enemies. Let's just hope that the ignorant come down with a cold on election day.
Still waiting on the apology from Bush and Cheney for the wasting itself.
Climb out from under your rock Carol Royce. Of COURSE Obama would have our attention if he were white.
He puts Dubya to shame in a linguistic sense and... hmmmm in every other sense.
The name mess up -- no mistake - probably a disgruntled bigoted employee or a way to stir up something. Never forget that conspiracies are what built this wonderful America in the first place - why STOP NOW?
Posted by Vanilla | February 15, 2007 12:48 PM
I blame Microsoft spellcheck. My Outlook always wants to change Obama to Osama. Seriously.
Posted by Dead Horse | February 15, 2007 12:52 PM
Those who claim that our soldiers lives have NOT been wasted need to take a nice trip to Iraq to see what is going on over there.
Of course, the criticizers know that it is a waste and that is precisely why they aren't over there.
Posted by Dead Horse | February 15, 2007 12:54 PM
Media Matters was too busy covering the apparent lack of decent reporters at ABC. According to Charles Gibson in an interview on Imus -he said they aren't covering the Libby story because he doesn't understand the issues
kind of like you not understanding the role of a media critic..
Only a member of the "right wing taliban" would think that Osama and Obama are the "same". Because Mr. Obama's view may differ from your ideology does not mean he hates America. When will people understand that the best thing about this country is that we can agree to disagree.
Posted by Viola | February 15, 2007 1:10 PM
To the idiot with the "World" comment "...build your own house before you tell me my house needs painting". How about US destroying those who want to spray paint our house with shrapnel. We have no choice but to reach halfway around the world and pull the trigger to get those who want our blood. It's true, they want our blood. No, I'm serious you dumbass, just check the papers.
Did you not see the news coverage of 9/11/2001, or at least attacks prior and after 9/11. Are you conveniently ignorant, or just sheltered.
On Obama, he is not the same as Osama. One pretends to like America, the other one is open about wanting to kill you and your children. Not to mention stoning women who portray an ounce of Liberism.
Yes, I think they are different.. except they both do have a hairy ass. Probably wildhairs all the way down to their crack.
Vote for hillary what is worng with you. I mean you are at a time blog so I asume you can at least read. I just cant understand how any human with a fully working brain could dump so much crap out on a blog. Everything you put up there was uninformed, biased, bigot like crap. Now I will not tell anyone who they should vote for. But plz who ever you vote for just be sure you get all the facts on all the candidates. An plz dont let name race sex or even party pick for you make a informed unbiased decision based on facts. Vote for hillary has obviously not done this.
Imagine a world where we focus on domestic issues because we can...
Having to fund a bloodbath, a corrupt one at that, where corporate security teams and civillians are making $$$ off it and not at all making us any safer. I mean putting our own men and women at harms way while teaching people from that part of the world what "the capitalists" are all about. I have no problem with capitalism, I truly love it. It is just that the capitalists with power got too greedy this time.
There is hope though. Our children are seeing what mistakes are being made, maybe they can change things when in power.
Until then, we should all think of ways to plant seeds in the heads of our leaders that peace is better than war!
What bothers me is that Obama has fooled the country saying He's a Christian when in fact he's not.
When he became Senator he swore on the Koran and not the Holy Bible.
He's the son of a muslim and in Muslim Law a son of a muslim is a Muslim forever.
Obama is a secret muslim and must come out of the closet.
