Obama Gets Humble

Now that's what I call resume-padding:

When Morgan Freeman comes over to greet Obama, the senator begins bowing down both hands in worship. "This guy was president before I was," says Obama, referring to Freeman's turn in Deep Impact and, clearly, getting a little ahead of his own bio. Next, a nod to Bruce Almighty: "This guy was God before I was." (Okay, more than a little ahead.)

Reader Comments (33)

That's pretty funny...but he needs to be careful. This kind of repartee goes over well with the political literati, but for the hoi polloi this could backfire a la the Beatles' "we're bigger than Jesus" comment (and they weren't running for national office).

-Alan

Time Again for ASK SENATOR SHIKSA...

Dear Senator Shiksa:

Q: During the American Civil War, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln temporarily set aside parts of the Constitution's otherwise inherent protections, in order to fight a more well-defined war, and to limit excess political noise that might interfere with his role as leader. FDR took similar actions during World War II, including the incarceration of thousands of innocent Japanese-Americans in prison camps located across the country, to include Arkansas and California. Given these historical and political precedents, why are many members of your party opposed to Gitmo, where President Bush has ordered enemies of the United States be held until they are no longer a threat to our country and our allies?

A: Look, I can't remember what campaign pledges I made yesterday, or even what religion I was last week, so don't expect me to know what some white male dead guy did thirty years ago ostensibly for the sake of his nation.

... ... ...

Q: If one hooker leaves Baltimore at 11 o'clock in the morning traveling by carbon-neutral camel, and another leaves Burlington, Vermouth the same time on Air Hanoi, which one gets to Chappaqua next?

A: That would be the one from Burlington. All the hookers from Baltimore arrived last week.

... ... ...

Q: You've met many people, been many places, heard many high pitched domestic employee sounds over the years. From all of those varied experiences, what would you say is the most important lesson learned by you, so far?

A: Being able to ask "Will that be cash, check, or charge?" in both French and Arabic.

... ... ...

Q: There is a great national divide over what American foreign policy should be, including our use of military power if and when appropriate. Many people think we should disengage and concentrate on domestic concerns, while others say that such isolationism would end in more attacks on our nation and allies. Given the current state of affairs and the threat from terrorists at home and abroad, what would you do during your first 100 days as Commander In Chief, if you are elected President of the United States?

A: That's a good question, and as soon as my focus group polling numbers are in from last night I'll get back to you with some semblance of an answer. Right now I have to go try on another pants suit. Have you seen my Secret Service grunts around today? Oh, there they are, trembling in fear by the water cooler again. Later!

... ... ...

Q: I can't decide whether to work for your campaign, or the Obama campaign. Any suggestions?

A: Who?

Have a qwexchun for Senator Shiksa? Good for you!

More here soon!

paul_lukasiak:

The author sticks so closely to the established formula for "Politician X goes to Hollywood" that it reads like a writing sample for a job on a sitcom -- it was the kind of piece that a high-school creative writing teacher would give a B+ ... with the note "This is a CREATIVE writing class"

James, Los Angeles:

McCain: "Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran"

http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/002070.php

Kristi:

A little joke.

At least it wasn't about bombing anyone.

"Given these historical and political precedents, why are many members of your party opposed to Gitmo"

Because this Democrat at least decries both of those "historical and political precedents". In case you haven't noticed, the U.S. government has done a lot of bad things (along with good things, just to be clear) over the years. That does not justify, or excuse, doing bad things now.

Alexi Ballsless:

"That does not justify, or excuse, doing bad things now."

Sorry, which locale would you prefer for penning the terror scum held in Gitmo?

Perhaps next Cape Cod? Oakland? Santa Fe?

Maybe the early retiree Bilsons out New Mexico way can have them over to their new spread, for re-hab and fajitas. They can get Bill Richardson to bring over the tape of his years with the Dodgers too.

Pesonally, I'd just as soon the enemies of America remain in Cuber Cuber Cuber, but that IS just me, eh?

Anonymous:

Wait, the wingers think the problem with Gitmo is the fact it's in Cuba?

Stem Cell Sally:

I think everyone knows that Hillary thinks she IS god, and that Bill Boy thinks he IS Jesus H. Christ.

Obama could play the part of the little lamb perhaps.

Edwards would be the innkeeper that kicked them all away for not having enough money to play at his 29,000 sq ft manger.

JJ:

Not to mention that he was Easy Reader. That's better than being president. Because that readin stuff is outta sight...

Maynard:

Did school let out early or something? Why are all the Trolls out now?

Juan Pagoda:

Link to Coulter's latest column, and she's right on target as usual (so to speak).

http://www.anncoulter.com/cgi-local/welcome.cgi

Too bad they don't teach such diversity at Time, or NBC News.

Anonymous:

"Link to Coulter's latest column, and she's right on target as usual (so to speak)."

Juan, seems she pegged you, dearest.

"But since Adam ate the apple and let evil into the world, deranged individuals have existed."

Theo:

Well, if anyone would know about deranged individuals, it's Ann Coulter.

paul_lukasiak:

Did school let out early or something? Why are all the Trolls out now?

apparently, some rightloon blogger linked to Klein's Kirkuk post, which is where the infestation started.

This just affirms the need for some method of "troll rating" posts, registration, and user blocking of idiots.

Andy from Maine:

Anonymous - Why even waste electrons referring Sr. Pagoda...or Sra. Coulter?

It only encourages them.

James, Los Angeles:

Cox, you really had to dig deep for this one. Do you have an automatic google search that returns all of the Democratic quotes with which you can potentially make some hay? Some obscure reporter in some obscure magazine overhears Obama meeting a guy whose movies he had watched at some private fundraiser? Or was this part of your daily RNC fax that you proceed to copy and paste, along with their written instructions on how to present in a derogatory way?

Maynard:

paul_lukasiak: "some rightloon blogger linked to Klein's Kirkuk post, which is where the infestation started."

It looks like QH is out with some Sockpuppets again. "Ask Senator Shiksa", "Stem Cell Sally
", and "Alexi Ballsless" are have the classic QH style.

Maynard:

Opps sorry, about that. Got my formatting wrong. Someday I'll learn to use the Preview button.

Theo:

I think Men's Vogue only qualifies as "some obscure magazine" to those who still find Highlights challenging.

ZSM:

I think the problem about gun control debate is that the conservatives are thinking too narrowly and the liberals are thinking too broadly. And though this post isn't on gun control, here's my take:

Gun control is needed to lessen the availability and manufacturing of these dangerous weapons. The black market is (I assume) based on the trade of weapons originally purchased legally. These are not drugs, which are (somewhat) easily produced, these are weapons made in factories that require a lot more to make. The black market therefore would perish, or at least dwindle, if the 'legal' market no longer existed. For that point, the conservatives do have a point: the bad people will get the weapons no matter what, so why attack legal owners. The liberals have a point: without guns, there would be no gun crimes. I'm sorry for the oversimplification, I can clarify if you want. Oh, what I would give to actually be an official blogger.

Anonymous:

ZSM:

First, given how this place is so free form I don't think anyone cares if you are OT or not.

"The black market is (I assume) based on the trade of weapons originally purchased legally."

I would also assume that every illegal weapon had to start out as a legal one at one point or another. Based on that, my first question would be "How did it get on the black market in the first place?" And to me, that's where we need to start really looking into things. Are we dealing with legal dealers who are selling illegally? Are we dealing with manufacturers who are selling illegally? Are we dealing with stolen weapons?

linda:

Jeez, Ana nice try. Party was February 20.

But what are you going to do, the MSM promote the hate VT coverage has brought out the Barbara Anners including Kristol, the Vigilante pistol in every five year old's back pack, working the ethnic thing, fear fumblers, off with their heads-it has to be some body's fault, multiple layers of lies/threats of doom from the DC idiots in charge and copy cats. Heaven help the folks that speak of honor, sorrow, helping, healing, love, friendship, respect, and peace.

Quote of the Day: The uninvited F. Graham per his admission on CNN shows up at VT with God or Satan. Heck, I'm thinking I haven't heard his ad on Cable lately. Must need some coins for the treasury.

LKL is dragging out the out of sync Dr. Dysfunctional Pop-Psychologist Phil again and CNN is advertising 'mind of mad man' to promote the exceptance of mental illness.

Let's go back to Edwards' hair, not his humanity.

PS:: Thanks for the CIA story. Now that is worth TIME.

James, Los Angeles:

Men's Vogue, Jan/Feb 2007, (Circ. 300,000)

I think a men's fashion magazine is still a little obscure out here in the hinterlands. But we'll see. I'm not trying to win an argument about it.

paul_lukasiak:

Personally, I think Men's Vogue is simply a way to extort money from fashion and coutour houses -- most of the big ones are now either part of a large conglomerate, or big corporations themselves.

In other words, if these women's fashion houses want coverage in the regular Vogue (and its international version) and/or coverage in Vogue hommes (the successful european male fashion offshoot of Vogue) they advertise in Mens Vogue.

Its not like Mens Vogue's editorial content costs much to produce --- very little of it can't be found in Vogue hommes in one form or another. So Mens Vogue can remain obscure but still be a cash cow.

Maybe Obama is just hinting that he wants some movie roles and that he'd make a great God..

Jo:

Clearly Barack is not ready for prime time. The Barack hype is much ado about nothing, and it's starting to show.

Right now, Anbar's tribes are aligning AGAINST Al Queda, and in force.

That is not an accident, but the result of years of work by American and Iraqi elements that REFUSE to lose this war to the forces of media-enabled terrorism.

Iraq will not soon be Haiti, to be sure.

Nor will it be Virginia Tech (full troop withdrawal before and during the fact), or Rwanda, or Sudan, or Somalia, or South Beach.

Harry Reid peaked Wednesday, and finally removed himself from any reasonable factual debate about Iraq's future and our freedoms on Thursday.

Only Gwen Ifill seems to have missed that actual news, among those that seem to sometimes care about getting it right (if not often).

Oh well.

HILLARY HAPPENS.

I'm sorry, that was hysterical.

And commentors: what in taco bell are you people TALKING about?????????

Lindel Bailey:

I have two comments. I will post them in separate articles. The first concerns Ana M. Cox. Regarding the name, it reminds me of a novel I read. One of the principle characters, a black man addressed the spelling and naming of current generation blacks. Names such as Lebron, Juwan, and Latisha. It is what you get when you have 13 year old mamas naming babies. For some reason Ana comes across as adolescent.

Ms cox should be licking Imus's boots for resurrecting her marginal career.

Lindel Bailey:

While Don Imus was systematically roiled off the air by the same "fourth estate" press who gave us such superb investigative reporting in the lead up to the Iraq war, Time Mag. has a prejudicial "Viewpoint" article by none other than recent Pulitizer Prize Winner, Cynthia Tucker, who has categorized every politician and journalist who might disagree with her position a "ho". Cynthia T. is an almost white woman whose success apparently depends on her ability to claim she is a victim of her race.

Cynthia, we all have some cross to bear, if you feel yours is being negroid, learn to live with it and stop blaming White guys like Imus, who had "zero" to do with you hair and skin properties. Blame it on the gods.

Personally, I have watched you on TV and I think you are an attractive, interesting woman, and I couldn't care less what your ethnic background is. If anything it adds to your mystique.
