No question, just praise for Time Magazine for getting it right. It could not have been anyone else, given the significance of the election of the first Black president of the United States. This is so great. Lincoln is smiling.

  2. Posted by Greg Giroir in Tampa:

What a joke and a crock! Of course he would get it, he's
Obama Christ Superstar! Amazing you can not do anything and make person of the year, although, who else COULD be chosen by this left-leaning magazine. Oh well since anybody can make it now, I guess next year is my turn so what am I complaining about right?

  3. Posted by Anne Burgess in Carmel,In:

Honestly, I don't know how you could have chosen anyone else. He's person of the year, person of the decade and in serious contention for person of the century.

  4. Posted by Mark Heacox in St.Petersburg:

A sad day in our history so I guess it is fitting the very media that elected him would recognize this person. Hopefully people will wake up when they see a hand on the bible and hear "barrack" "huisen" "obama" sworn in as their President and realize the path this country has taken...South Africa?

    Good Luck!

  5. Posted by Bible Clinger in Pittsburgh:

Given Time Magazine's bias-laced issues during the presidential campaign, your pick comes as no surprise and was absolutely predictable.

  6. Posted by Gladys Behrens in Lisle:

Absolutely got it right! Thank you TIMES

  7. Posted by Rick Bramham in Bellingham,WA:

The question is absurd. How could you disagree?

  8. Posted by richard brown in kingston:

My only regrets is that he is not a born Jamaican which would not make him eligible to run for president. This would really emphasise our power to the world.

    Figures!

It should be our men and women of our military! Through all this mess they have stood strong with dignity and honor. Agree or disagree, they stood up for our country and fought for our freedom and always helped the weaker person.

  10. Posted by Roberta Burns in GardenValley,CA:

The men and women of the Armed Forces that unselfishly give up their lives to serve in the worst of locations under the worst of conditions deserve to be the men and women of the year. Barrack is a very priviliged person who has not done a real act of courage or selfless service. I find his rise to power from the Chicago polical machine and how he has made is fortunes subject to further investigation and scrutiny. How was he able to afford to attend such schools and afford that house from such humble beginnings?

    Greggie in Tampa,

Obama is not Christ. You are an idiot.

    Sorry butthead, just my opinion.

  12. Posted by Bible Clinger in Pittsburgh:

Thank you Greg! This past election was not won by Obama, but by the bias journalism of the mass media. Many will forever see this as a sad era for our country.

  13. Posted by Rosemary Horton in Charlevoix,Michigan:

Who else could it possibly have been? From the moment I heard and saw his speech in Springfield on C-SPAN, announcing his entry into the race, I thought, "This is the man who can change the dismal atmosphere of the last eight years." He certainly gets my vote as "Person of the Year." You got it right!

  14. Posted by Doris Bosstick in Warsaw,IN:

I cannot agree more with your choice of the person of the year. I believe he is the only person who can turn this country around. I also believe that he has a VERY full plate.
I am happy with your choice.
At a rally in Noblesville, IN in the summer I told my 16 y/o grand daughter that she had just shaken hands with her next president. It was a good feeling.

  15. Posted by Patricia Holloway in Woodbridge:

Of course it should be Barak Obama. Doesn't he fit Time's criteria for choosing Time Magazine's Person Of The Year?

  16. Posted by Robin Churchill in Sanibel:

I think final your choice of Person of the year was good but can't believe you would even consider Sarah Palin in the running. As a republican white professional woman, I think she is one of the stupidest people I have ever heard speak. She has no idea what she is talking about. I find her whole persona just unbelievable and immediately discounted John McCain as a serious presidential candidate the first time I heard her and found out about some of her barbaric actions in Alaska.

  17. Posted by John Smith in Sarasota,Florida:

Right on the money out with Bush who has been a complete disaster to this country, a sinking economy, 2 wars, trillions in dept.
Obama will have a lot of work on he's hands to clean up after this incompetent administration. People are fedup and sick of the GOP Time for change.... I see there are a few racist people commenting on here

  18. Posted by Dana Norman in Bellingham:

Brilliant ! Absolutely Brilliant! Best choice in many years. Go Obama

  19. Posted by Sana in Dubai:

I want to know How Sarah Palin had an impact in our lives????? with her hilarious interviews? and lack of knowledge? or because Russia is just next to Alaska?

  20. Posted by cynthia flanagan in framingham,ma.:

I do not agree with Time's choice....Obama won the presidency and that is an honor...
I think Sarah Palin should have won "Person of the year" this unknown woman was a candidate for the VP...plus she is a Mother, a wife a Governor and she is only forty four years old...
Sarah Palin has accomplished so much in those years...
I beleive it is much harder as a woman, Mom, wife and politician in 2008...not a winner...
Barack Obama is a winner and that accolade speaks for itself...
Sarah Palin is my person of the year!

  21. Posted by James Cox in Garner:

What a joke, but what could one expect from a magazine that leans so far to the left. If he is so great, then why doesn't he produce his birth certificate so his qualification to be president can be verified and let the FEC audit his campaign finances. One that is honest has nothing to hide and would more than willingly provide what is asked for. Only time will tell as to the damage that will be done to this great country of ours.

  22. Posted by Tanya Dean in VillaRidge:

Great Pic! Obama all the way! Looking back at your past issues I don't understand how Bush got on the cover????

  23. Posted by Jennifer Wildman in NewYork:

I totally agree, you could never have chosen a better person. He is the one.

  24. Posted by Linda Kinder in Savanna,Illinois:

I agree. He is the person of the year!Great job!Thank-you.

  25. Posted by Robert Kirch in Princeton:

While this nation is at war, there is only one choice and that is the American serviceman and woman.

  26. Posted by Rev Kat Simpson in :

Shame on you for including PALIN in anything with an honorary. She should be put out of whatever office she still holds and is an embarrassment to everything good.

Good for Obama, I hope he lives up to the promises now.

How about handing out honors to those who work hard for something good like HELPING OTHERS without donating to their own charities for a tax write off...Those who work hard to protect ANIMALS and ENVIRONMENT and other decent people out here who need help!
Big out front peple ASWELL AS ALL the LITTLE behind the scenes people (of which we do not ask for reconition for what is done) but it would be nice to see people care about the innocent of the world, those with no voice, no money, no healthcare, no home, nothing but being thankful we get by, and who help others when they have not much of their own.
Those are the ones who should be on the cover...that which shows the struggle of animals on the streets, in horrid places, abused by those who are cruel, innocent ......put those on your cover and honor them...put those on your cover WHO REALLY CARE ABOUT THIS AND OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES.........honor them....
not someone who has a good time killing animals, or those who have..

TIME FOR A WAKE UP CALL PEOPLE........think about others........ALL LIVING BEINGS and this earth who is at the limit.

How sad that even in the comments for Time Magazine we see not only rampant racism but astounding stupidity.

This old white woman says Thank You!, Time Magazine. You got this 100% right.

Ignore the comments from the fools who cannot recognize the historic nature of Barack Obama winning the Presidency.

Frankly, I can't believe they have the brain cells to turn on a computer.

  30. Posted by Dennis D in NewJersey:

The person of the year should be TIME and other members of the Liberal media who got a man with such little experience elected and who totally ignored doing any investigation and vetting of this man. Bravo Lib Media. You win..

  31. Posted by R Cruz in Orlando:

Yeah, I'm really shocked he was chosen....Who else would the liberal media choose? Was there really anyone else considered? What a huge surprise... you know, with all of his accomplishments and all... what were they now...?

  32. Posted by John Smith in Sarasota,Florida:

Mark Heacox in St.Petersburg is a narrow minded uneducated racist idiot who doesn't want Obama in because he's black. This country is already in a terrible state thanks to Bush and the GOP. (not Obama).... Comparing the US and South Africa is unfounded

  33. Posted by cynthia flanagan in framingham,ma.:

Does Barack think he can care for five children, be a husband and a candidate for office plus a Governor of a State?
    I really doubt it
Women never get the praise they deserve....We are still fighting for equal rights!
    Just notice us PLEASE?

  34. Posted by Tiffany Heath in ColoradoSprings,CO:

I think in less than 1 year, Time will regret this decision. As information surfaces about our new president once he takes office, including religious beliefs, secret racial agendas (see Michelle's Master's Thesis), and at least a decade of radical connections, Time will be embarrassed by their decision. It is only a matter of time before those who voted for McCain are proven all the wiser. Good luck Mr. Obama as you are going to need it when your lack of integrity, honesty, and experience become your downfall. I for one, am actually looking forward to being proven right. However, as we always do, Republicans will show grace, manners, and humility as we come in to clean up the mess the democrats will surely create.

  35. Posted by James Kirk Maberry in CorpusChristi,Texas:

I believe that your choice of Barack Obama was a "gimme". Anyone who disagrees is an ideologue. I do have a critique, however. He didn't overcome a funny name, he overcame a muslim name. Much more impressive at this time in history. He didn't overcome a racial divide either. Martin Luther King Jr., Lyndon Johnson, Herbert Brownell et al did. What we have learned is that real racism is dead. There is now as much racism in the "white community" as there is in the "black community". What, with all of that "not black enough" talk? As a Republican who voted for him, I can tell you that he moved Republicans into his camp much as Reagan moved democrats into his. Some would say that was because of Republican disdain for McCain, but it was more than that. Still, another significant accomplishment of this impressive man.

  36. Posted by David Luepke in Edgar,Wi:

Sarah Palin. Nothing phony about her.

  37. Posted by Betty Carolyn Huffman Molinare in NewBern,NC28560:

Excellent Choice. Having a white mother and a foreign black
father makes him representative of the World. Perhaps we
will see an end to the Bush Administration penchant for world
domination by the United States. Renewing the cold war such
as putting a missile defense in former Soviet territorities
is the height of arrogance and lack of understanding in
the post-Soviet Union era. Let's hope Obama stops such
    divisive policies.

  38. Posted by Mike in NewJersey:

Sarah Palin impresses me more. She is a SELF MADE WOMAN who , unlike Obama, actually has a record of legislative accomplishment and CHANGE. In this time of Corrupt politicians she has a record of tracking down such creeps regardless of party. Many crooked politicians are sitting in Alaskan Jails due to her actions.

  39. Posted by Ed Wiegner in Lancaster:

Obama was the best choice! Palin never should have even been consider. She is a national / international mistake that cost our polictical system dearly.

  40. Posted by Anna W. Williams in Hobart:

President Elect, Barack Obama is my person of the year, and I'm glad Time magazine chose him. We need positive and inspirational leaders at this time in America. He's the real deal and I'm proud America finally got it right.

  41. Posted by Wendell L Moore in Stockbridge,GA:

Congradulations on being elected to the highest office in the land, but I think that the honor of being the man of the year should hinge on what you do while in that office. Getting elected had alot to do with the economy that was blamed on George Bush (but if you look back the economy was put in dire straits during the Clinton adminstration and came to fruition during Bush's adminstration; specifcally the mortgage fisaco). I think a wiser choice for the "Man of the year" is the average middle class family who is suffering thru lost of jobs (by jobs being shipped overseas), lost of savings (thru the greed of Wall Street Investors, who by the way did not risk their money), and the loss of homes. But they continue on trying to find an answer. Those are the true "Man of the Year" persons.

  42. Posted by Scott Morey in FrontRoyal:

I disagree, I have a hard time taking anything published by "Time" seriously anymnore. Your magazine was so in the tank for Obama right from the start that I view this as meaning absolutely nothing at all. If you were fair and balanced maybe then would I take this as truly meaning something. He has done absolutely nothing yet!! Nothing at all except for being elected president, hell George W did that twice so just how hard can it be????? Why not wait until Obama actually does some good before giving him all these accolades?

  43. Posted by Glen E. Miller in Cincinnati:

A great a wise choice. TIME got it right this time. How could it have been anyone else, considering the magnitude of this event.

  44. Posted by Susann Fritsch in Mequon,WI:

To David in WI: From another WI resident, you're absolutely right about Sarah Palin being genuine - she's a genuine idiot and proved it every time she opened her mouth.

This white mother of five says she's an embarrassment to women, mothers, politicians, and anyone who passed the third grade.

  46. Posted by Pamela Livingston in Ocala:

    Excellent choice!

  47. Posted by Robert Lewis in Houston:

Like him or not, this man has secured his place in the history books of the world forever. Depending on how his presidency goes, do not be surprised for find his face on the currency in your pocket or even on Mt. Rushmore in the distant future. This year's choice was a done deal with his landslide victory in November. I have a feeling this will not be the last time President Obama receives this honor. Well done Time magazine.

  48. Posted by Linda Exum in Athens:

There is no doubt he is person of the year. All the negative comments make me sad. Even John McCain says we must all work together in a non-partisan fashion to get this country out of the ditch. We've supported our presidents for more than 200 hundred years. Is there some reason you bigots can't do the same? He is making center (not leftist) decisions about who will work with him--including keeping a Bush appointee. Stop the hurtful and belittling rhetoric and give him a chance.

  49. Posted by Kevin Boyle in Everett,Ma:

he has the vision and, i believe, the ability to reshape this country and to put it back on the path our forefathers set. We have strayed far from what we are supposed to be. From defenders of freedom and the the oppressed, we have morphed into a nation a nation that worships the almighty dollar and very little else. We need a leader whom is not (Too much)a part of the wealthy eliteist establishment that has ruined this country at home and in the syes of the world. He has his work cut out for him, as Mr Bush and his cronies have ruined us financially, politically, and ecologically.
    Go Obama!!!!!!!!!!

  50. Posted by Doris Garcia in Arlington,Virginia:

I think Time hit it dead on. Again. Obama came to my mind immediately when I saw the question. It's history in the making.
