Sex and the Big Screen

Yesterday it was but a whisper but this morning it can be writ large: Carrie and all the gang will be getting their cosmos shaken on the big screen (so to speak). New Line Cinema is set to finance a movie version of Sex and the City and filming with stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon should begin in the fall.

Live Earth Rio is also a go. One day after a judge ordered the free concert on Copacabana beach canceled out of security concerns, Rio's prosecutor's office overturned the ban. The on-off furor may be a blessing in disguise. Up until last week Rio residents had shown little interest in the event and organizers were struggling to make up the numbers. "I think cariocas [Rio residents] are more worried about football, going to the beach and carnival than global warming," Rafael Kalil, a singer in a Rio band told the Guardian.

Finally a quick update on some of America's celebrity shrinking violets. Nicole Richie is pregnant as is Christina Aguilera (maybe). And Britney Spears (remember her?) is apologizing for assaulting a photographer's car with an umbrella. We know this because People read it on Britney's website.
